Its too late to write about the 3rd commonwealth youth games which was held in pune during the perion 12th -18th october 2008. It was a great experiance to me be a part of "TEAM PUNE".
Its the first time the 3rd commonwealth youth games was held in ASIA specially in INDIA.
History of commonwealth games:-
- The first commonwealth youth games were held inEdinburgh,scotland from 10th -14th august 2000.
- The second commonwealth youth games were held in Bendigo,Australia from 30th november-3rd december 2004
- Third commonwealth youth games were held in Pune,India from 12th october-18th october 2008.
It was the first time all 71 commonwealth countries were particepating in this mega sports event.In this sports event there were 9 catogery/deceplines of games were conducted.These are Athelitics, swimming, Boxing,Wrestling,Badminton,Table Tennis,Shooting,Weightlifting and Tennis.
In this mega sports event INDIA stood the first rank with 33 Gold, 26 Silverand 17 Bronze.2nd position AUSTRALIA with total 65 medal including 24 Gold, 19 Silver and 22 Bronze and in the third position ENGLAND with 41 medals.
In this sports event there were around 5000 volunteer are working Day and Night for the sucessful of the event as a TEAM PUNE member.
The mascot of the 3rd commonwealth games 2008 were "JIGRR"
